Large-eddy simulation of pollutant dispersion in generic urban street canyons: Guidelines for domain size

چکیده
Abstract Pollutant dispersion in urban street canyons has been widely investigated by large-eddy simulation (LES). Many LES studies focused on generic under a wind direction perpendicular to the axis. Accurate simulations require sufficiently large domain size minimize effects of artificial boundary conditions at faces results. As opposed RANS simulations, there is lack guidelines for an appropriate flow and pollutant canyons. The present study systematically investigates effect width, height upstream downstream lengths within 2.5D canyon with spanwise periodic conditions. Following validation study, 16 are performed different sizes. results show that minimum requirement width 2.5H, where H roof canyon. For height, length length, 7.5H, 5H 10H recommended, respectively. These should help reduce computational costs this type without significantly compromising accuracy.

Seasonal Changing Effect on Airflow and Pollutant Dispersion Characteristics in Urban Street Canyons
In this study, the effect of seasonal variation on air flow and pollutant dispersion characteristics was numerically investigated. A three-dimensional urban canopy model with unit aspect ratio (H/D = 1) was used to calculate surface temperature distribution in the street canyon. Four representative time events (1000 LST, 1300 LST, 1600 LST and 2000 LST) during typical clear summer and winter da...

The increased traffic emissions and reduced ventilation of urban street canyons lead to the formation of high particle concentrations as a function of the related flow field and geometry. In this context, the use of advanced modelling tools, able to evaluate particle concentration under different traffic and meteorological conditions, may be helpful. In this work, a numerical scheme based on th...
متن کاملLarge-eddy simulation of reactive pollutant dispersion in a street canyon using a subgrid scale variance model of concentration field
ABSTRACT: Bi-molecular reactions can affect the transport of air pollutants in urban street canyons. In numerical simulations, we need to evaluate the correlation between the concentrations of the reactants to know the reaction rate. In this paper, we examine the effects of the subgrid scale (SGS) on the reaction rate in large-eddy simulations (LESs). LESs coupled with an SGS variance model are...

This research studies the behavior of the dispersion of a pollutant cloud, through the simulation of an eddy field velocity. To do so, a mathematical model was developed, with base in the Monte Carlo simulations, in order to analyze all statistic aspects, present in this process. A computational program was developed, so that it can be possible to establish the behavior of the cloud size, in a ...
